I got worse than that. I got forwarded from Mediafire to some site called HipHollywood. I suspect the days of Mediafire being a safe place to store and download files are over.
MediaFire has been doing that the past year or so at times. Not everytime, but on occasion it will forward you to an "interesting" site. If I suspect a file may have unwanted stuff, I do a quick scan on it with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Center before I install it.

Ive got an ad blocker and haven't seen that happen for a while.
instead I get a prompt to disable the addblocking (I don't) and it lets me DL with a "Your DL Sponsored by ZZZ" message
