[HOW] YSFlight & VATSIM

Post by u2fly »

Here is part of comment #481884 on VATSIM forum:
William Song 1305600 wrote: I'm really starting to distrust my flight simulator to the point where I might have to just fall back to the usual non-realistic YS Flight Simulator for good. (Since FSX is too expensive for me to afford, and my laptop's not compatible with FlightGear nor X-Plane...)
And now think, is it a way connect YSFlight with VATSIM?

VATSIM (short for the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network) is a completely free online platform which allows virtual pilots, wherever they are in the world, to connect their flight simulators into one shared virtual world.
VATSIM is biggest network for Civillian VA and virtual ATC, and for now there are few tools that give possibility connect using different network protocols from FSX and X-Plaine and other simulators.
At the moment YS have few proxy servers and OpenYS server in active development stage, that, I think, can be modified for using protocol from VATSIM servers.

I found that FlightGear also have a tool for connecting with this network:

And here is a topic how they made it:
1) https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=49243
2) http://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.p ... 3&start=75

Also FlightGear have connector to other protocols (simulators?)
3) https://sourceforge.net/projects/flightgearconne/

I will add in this post more info about VATSIM specific for those, who interested in YSFlight

CP and I were talking just last night about being able to connect with pilots in multiple servers using OYS. Communication across servers is one thing, but communication across simulators is completely different. But who would have thought there would ever be a somewhat realistic day/night cycle in YSF?

Agre, think OpenYS will give us more and more futures very soon (only problem that its steal not compiled for Linux).

As I understand, FlightGear use some proxy-like app writed in Python.
For now @mrmofumofu, that know Python well, active work on some proxy server "Poseydon2" for YSFlight (I steal cant understand what it will be).

How VATSIM work?
https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=16745
Think, main targets for support VATSIM protocol are:
  • aircraft coordinate converting
  • weather converting
  • creating few special aircrafts and scenery
For ATC in VATSIM already can use independent applications, that work without dependency from other simulators
Some applications already are opensource, so it can be modified easy:
Here is a list of approved VATSIM apps:
