[REQUEST]Cinderblock Flighter

Post by Random_Flyer66 » Sun Sep 18, 2016 2:20 am

This is probably stupid but awesome.

In the PMNV pack, there is a cinder block plane which is normal until you turn on the afterburners. These afterburners launch you to more than 2000 knots. I liked it a lot until I noticed that there are no weapons on the plane.

Therefore, I propose a fighter version of it. I would like to have a gun with 5000 rounds of ammunition and 6 hard points (3 on each side). And just maybe increase the top speed to 4000 knots just for laughs. I bet no one is going to do this but if someone does, you will be one of my favorite modders.

I need to learn how to make weapons skins so I can make it shoot missiles that look like little, red bricks. Maybe it could carry bombs that look like sacks of concrete and rockets that look like trowels.

I'll use the stock F-16 .dat since that is the standard for this sort of thing. Or am I living in 2008 when I say that?

That would be good. It would be funny for it to be shooting bricks when it is also on its after burners.

This is actually really easy to do. Go into your YSFlight folder and look under Aircraft for a fighter aircraft's DAT file. Say F-15.Dat

Then copy relevant lines into your cinderblock plane .DAT file.

You will always be left disappointed if you always request other people to do work for you.

Editing a DAT is easy, just open it up in notepad and it's a legible text file.

This is one of the first mods you should do. Why not, just for shits and giggles, right now, change the afterburner power of the stock f-14 (Aircraft/F-14.DAT) to be double the power.

The weapons addition you intend for the brick plane could be done in 2 minutes.

You should really start learning to Mod, it's quite rewarding.

I have found a problem. When I try to edit the dat file, it forces me to save it and will therefore make me replace the original one. When I try to do that, it denies access to me.

Save as>different location. Then copy paste back into your ys folder.

FYI I never run YSFLIGHT in the default program files folder for that very reason.

Are you using Notepad to edit the .dat file? You can use Save As instead of just Save. Just set it to "All" file types and give it a different name with .dat at the end.

EDIT: But to be clear, I now plan to make and release an official Fighter adaptation of this based on the F-16 .dat and may make various masonry-related weapons. And an all-seeing eye logo just to confirm Illuminati connections. ;)

I added

GUNINTVL 0.01
GUNPOWER 4
INITGUN 5000

to the .dat and saved it, and it worked! (for the gun part)
Also, I made mine stealth by making the radar cross-section 0 (I think it works)

Sp, I saved the modified file as Moddedf18.dat and put in a different folder. I then copied it back to the ysflight aircraft folder and opened the simulator. The result: Nothings has changed. So, what have I done wrong?

You need to reference the Moddedf18.dat in the lst. If not, YS will just load the stock F-18 dat and you will see no change.

Look at the modding links in the sidebar or check out our modding tutorial section.

I got the AGM and B250 installed.
Still planned: A carpenter's level for air-to-air missiles. Possibly a bag of cement for a fuel tank.

Yes, it has guns.

I used a 1-yard level for AIM9s and a 1-meter level for AIM120s. Rockets are masonry hammers.
